Travel France

There are many well-known seaside towns in Normandy including Deauville, with its international racecourse. Further westwards are the Landing Beaches of the 1944 Allied invasion, whilst, to the east is the port of Le Havre and the family resorts of Étretat, Fécamp and Dieppe, with its sandy beach and interesting port. Along the shores of the Manche peninsula are several beachside villages and the port of Granville, with ferries to the Channel Islands. At the southern extremity of Normandy is the Mont-Saint-Michel and its historic abbey. France's National Stud, The Haras-du-Pin is near Argentan. Within Normandy, there is much to see - Falaise, the birthplace of William the Conqueror, the Bayeux Tapestry, the pilgrimage centre of Lisieux and Rouen, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. In the Orne département, Alençon boasts a fine lace museum and for the active, there is canoeing and pony-trekking.
